During the Introduction to Graphic Design course (from June 30th to July 11th) students will learn the basic technical notions of graphic design, (composition, color, material and so on) with a particular emphasis on the links between urban communication and graphic design. The medium will be explored by a mixture of theory and practice to provide the students with the necessary skills to develop different graphic identities, towards the final production of a shared printed volume.
The course aims to provide the students with the basic technical skills and to present a visual vocabulary that enables a generation of various graphic identities.
Students will be given assignments divided into the basic notions of graphics that all work toward a shared final expression.
During the Graphic Design Studio course (from July 15th to July 25th), students will approach more advanced graphics, illustration and typography notions developing at the same time the conceptual and narrative skills necessary for the production of an evocative design. The urban environment of Milan with its graphic forms, both studied and visited, will serve as fundamental stimulation to generate a final poster that communicates visually and graphically the essence of the city.
The course is aimed at students with an initial understanding and experience of visual communication with the intention to enhance advancement in the prior knowledge and skill set.
Students will work with work with following topics; graphics (identity, branding), illustration (techniques) and typography. In parallel the students will be supported with contemporary and classic knowledge on the graphic medium.
The course provides the creative, conceptual and narrative skills necessary to integrate content for the production of an evocative design.
To design is to have an open mind. In this graphic course we ask to focus on the contemporary visual surroundings and to question its quality and reason. This course is for beginners who seek an introduction to the basics of graphic design. Students will explore the links between urban communication and graphic design by a mixture of theory and practice.
